The multi award-winning Welsh Misery is back on the road with his hilarious new if.comedy nominated show.  Following a sell-out hit run at the Edinburgh Festival with extra dates added due to overwhelming public demand, Rhod takes his critically acclaimed new show to venues around the country – culminating in an eight night run in London’s West End at the Soho Theatre. 

Since his Perrier Newcomer nominated debut show - ‘Rhod Gilbert’s 1984’, Rhod has been haunted by critics describing him as a serial fantasist of ex-prime ministerial proportions.  This year, Rhod decided to abandon his fictional tales of Llanbobl, and try living in the real world for once.  ‘Rhod Gilbert & The Award-Winning Mince Pie’ begins in a service station, at about 2.40am.  Armed with a travel pillow, a flask and a very powerful torch, Rhod aggressively demands to know more about the 'Award-Winning Mince Pie' on display on the counter.  Suddenly aware of what he is doing, he is forced to acknowledge that he may be having a very mild nervous breakdown.  How did it come to this?  He doesn’t even like Mince Pies.  The pressures of living in a tedious, pointless and absurd world surrounded by idiots have finally taken their toll.  Perhaps he should never have left his fantasy world of Llanbobl in the first place.  This is the slightly ridiculous story of how one Mince Pie broke the camel’s back.

On TV screens, Rhod has appeared on ‘Mock The Week’ (BBC 2), ‘Never Mind The Buzzcocks’ (BBC2), ‘Dara O Briain Talks Funny’ (BBC 1), 'The Charlotte Church Show' (Ch 4), ‘Live at the Fringe’ (Paramount & STV), ‘Edinburgh & Beyond’ (Paramount), ‘The World Stands-Up’ (Paramount), as well as a 30 minute special for ‘The Comedy Store’ (Paramount) and sketch performances on ‘Comedy Shuffle’ (BBC 3) and ‘Comedy Cuts’ (ITV2).  He’s fast on the rise in his native Wales and has been the subject of his own 30 minute documentary profile entitled ‘Rhod Gilbert Stands Up For Wales’ (BBC 1, Wales).  He’s also presented ‘Teen Tribes’, learnt Welsh under mentor Cerys Matthews (‘I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here’ / Catatonia) on ‘The Big Welsh Challenge’, and hosted ‘The Best Welsh Joke’ for Comic Relief (all BBC 1 Wales).  During the Rugby Welsh cup he was a regular contributor to ‘BBC Wales Today’ and also guested on ‘Max Boyce’s World Cup Journey’ (BBC 1 Wales). 

Not just a natural on our TV screens, Rhod has written a sitcom for Radio Two entitled ‘Rhod Gilbert’s Misery’ which records shortly.  He continues to present his own weekly live show on BBC Radio Wales every Saturday' from 11am-1pm and was recently nominated for ‘Best Radio Personality’ at the Celtic Media Awards.  He has also presented a series of comedy quiz show ‘Jest A Minute’ - a second series has been commissioned for the autumn (BBC Radio Wales).    Other notable radio performances include ‘Loose Ends’, ‘Just A Minute’ and ‘4 At The Fringe’ (BBC Radio 4) and ‘Out To Lunch’, ‘Dara O Briain and Friends’, ‘Sean Lock & Friends’, ‘Edinburgh Nights’ and a Sony Award winning episode of ‘The Lee Mack Show’ (BBC Radio 2).
